Cream of the crops receive honors (bb-3/7/07)
The eagerly-awaited event reached a pinnacle for a group of undergraduates from Brunei Darussalam studying at the University of Sheffield when they were awarded with degrees in Bachelor of Arts in a lavish ceremony held at the Convocation Hall, Octagon Centre of the university, located in the northern part of England.
They are a batch of 14 graduates who successfully completed a four year twinning programme in Accounting and Financial Management made possible by a link up between Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Sheffield University. The group spend their first two years at UBD while the final two remaining years at Sheffield University.
The ceremonies were held consecutively and grouped into different faculties from July 16-20. Some 200 graduates from Faculty of Social Sciences received their degrees on July 19 (Thursday) including 14 from the sultanate. The graduates are: Noramaliah Hj Yahya, Hjh Fadhlina Maryati Hj Ya’akub, Yusbazilah Hj Yusof, Norhalizah Hj Serudin, Ang Siow Quan, Azalinawaty Jaini, Nurul Fariha Hj Jalim, Dk Nurul Hawa Hanani Pg Abd Wahab, Md Deddy Erwan Shah Hj Mutalib, Md Sukri Nur Hj Jais, Dazlina Hj Matahir, Hj Azrul Azrin Hj Md Ain and Liew Fung Kiaw.
Meanwhile, Noorulhaya bte Haji Ghafor@Md Daud (6th from left) emerged as the top awardee from Brunei where she received incentives for achieving a first class honor’s degree in the same course.
The institution is also awarded a Sheffield-born actor Sean Bean with a honorary Doctors of Letters, LittD (Arts) as an actor and his ongoing commitment to the city of Sheffield. Actor Sean Bean achieved worldwide fame for his roles in Hollywood blockbuster movies including The Lord of the Rings, Patriot Games, James Bond’s Golden Eye and Troy.
