Hajah Dayang captures PERTIWI’s top honor in al-Quran reading competition
Hajah Dayang binti Jais was declared the overall winner in the inaugural al-Quran reading competition held at Seri Kenangan Hall, Tutong Civic Complex in Tutong on 20/4/07. It was organized by the PERTIWI association of Tutong District in conjunction with the Maulidur Rasul celebration to commemorate the birthday anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Eight participants from the association took part in the competition and three categories were in contention; Participants between 18 to 35 years, 36 to 55 years and readers above 56 years. Prior to the competition, chairperson of the ceremony, Ustazah Hajah Jabidah Haji Jakariya delivered the welcoming speech. Only two readers were competing in the first category (18 to 35 years) with Norhayati Abdullah was triumphant and second place went to Hajah Nurshafiqah Haji Mohd Apong.

In the second category (36 to 55 years), Jamaliah Haji Pudin captured the first place, Apsah Sabtu came in second and third place went to Rukijah Rosdi. Hajah Dayang binti Jais captured first place in the third category, second Hajah Zainah DP Haji Abd Wahab and Hajah Salmah Haji Suhaili came third. Hajah Dayang binti Jais was also declared the overall winner of the competition.

A special talk entitled “Empowering commitment towards religious life” was delivered by an officer from Islamic Dakwah Center, Ustazah Hajah Rogayah Begawan Pehin Khatib Haji Abd Wahid. The chief guest, Dr Hajah Jamilah Haji Mohd Yusof, the wife of the Acting District Officer of Tutong District, gave away the prizes to the winners.
