Not an ordinary rodent!
Looking at a glimpse of this rodent (hamster), there is nothing unusual of this tiny creature. However, upon close observation, a look alike ‘metal spur’ of a fighting cock (taji in Malay words) could be seen protruding underneath its mouth.

A visibly look alike metal spur or bone underneath its mouth
According to the pet owner who resides in Kg Lambak, the parents were given to him by a friend a few months back. As a hobbyist, he took the initiative to breed them but several days ago, he noticed a peculiar spike sticking out after feeding the animal. Initially, he thought it was leftovers but to his surprise, a 3 inch curved spiky object (resembles a bone) projecting and reached as far as its mouth. He added he never seen ‘an extra limb’ in any rodents and upon checking with other offspring, none bore any abnormalities.

Besides keeping hamsters as pet, he believes hamsters have some experimental values. He said by separating his pet into groups and providing them supplements of proteins or leaves only, the outcomes are valuable in terms of dietary values to determine the life span or longevity of the rodents.
